Someone here called Pluto posted asking for help with this, and someone responded with a broken link. Figures.
I'm sure some know what I'm talking about... the trail effect was used in movies like Ghostfight and Yoyo vs FL. Its that effect used to automatically draw trails for a clip each frame. I've been looking high and low for a tutorial or something, and to no avail.

Flash industries is now dead, but before it died, it hosted a special sword with a built in AS trail. I used it for a while but realized it was getting generic as everyone had it.

Its rotting in the bowels of my computer somewhere, but I cant find it.

Justsolo gave it to me and Lixu first, then it spread out to everyone. Everyone used it, and people began to hate it as well and stopped using it. Yea this was just info loo.
